What makes a house a home? Is it the 4 walls that surround you? Is it the “stuff” you fill it with? Or is it the love and memories you build and create within it?
I choose the latter, and that’s what’s most important to me, the love and memories.
But I believe what makes a house a home is even more than that…I need to love my home too. The things that surround us can bring memories and smiles to our faces, especially when decorated with a personal touch or those sentimental belongings that bring you joy.
When you wake each morning in a space that brings you joy, it starts your day off right. And it feels good when your loved ones come together at the end of the day to the place you call home, where your heart is.
When my family and I first moved into our house in 2013, we were excited! Thrilled even! See…we were living with my parents for a year (what was supposed to be a 5 year plan) and things didn’t work out the way we had planned for one reason or another. Some would say we “settled” on the house we bought…it was me…I said that. Maybe we did…maybe we didn’t. I’ve gone through seasons of loving and hating our house.
One thing I know for sure…we’ve made many many memories in the almost 10 years we’ve lived here. We’ve learned, we’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve grown. Boy…have we grown. So much has changed, with my children, and within these 4 walls. Almost everything was done on our own. My goal is to share all of these changes; past, present, and future DIY’s and how I’m making our house a home. Come along, enjoy the good times with us, the nitty gritty, and maybe even some yummy’s along the way!
